NOAA announces El Niño event has ended

Hi all,

In an 8 August press release, NOAA has stated that El Niño has ended: NOAA increases chance for above-normal hurricane season | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Cooler than average sea surface temperatures are now present across the eastern equatorial Pacific and this trend is expected to continue westward over the next few months.

The atmosphere may continue to respond to the residual warm pool of water in the Pacific over the next few months, but it may become less responsive by the end of 2019.

I have created an interactive plot of current global sea surface temperature anomaly data (NOAA OISSTv2) that you can interact with here: https://plot.ly/~Pacific_RCC/2/#/

Regards,

Ben
